Loving The Mute. Sometimes It Is Necessary

I love poetry and fashion for the same reasons--both speak a language that is both dramatic and subtle, and can be enjoyed on the most basic level (as simple as the poetry of a song or beautiful fashion photography) or considered with the furvor as a scholar.

With poetry, I find great inspiration in the the passionate works of the 13th century Sufi poet Rumi, last century's romantic Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and my late grandmother Anita Hamm. It will be my greatest pleasure to share some of the poetry that makes me tick, plus some of my own.

Each season I anticipate the poetic work of designer Albert Elbaz of Lanvin, the strong focus of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler and the eco-conscious elegant athleticism of Stella McCartney (to name a few), as well as what the designers at home in Portland are creating. Fashion's ever-changing landscape makes for an engaging show. I love contributing to the fashion dialog--I am proud of my work as a writer, makeup artist and stylist and when I'm helping to create beautiful photographs on set, I find myself pinching myself to see if it's just a dream!
